Chillaxing in Murren in the Swiss Oberland

Travelling in this beautiful part of Switzerland is shockingly expensive. Our mid-range hotel was just about ok but unremarkable, but food was a real letdown everywhere, and expensive. Coffee like dishwater and $7 for a cappuccino. You’re better off renting an apartment and self catering. Pick of the villages in the valley is Murren, located on the shelf above the valley floor, with sensational mountain views, reached via the train from Lauterbrunnen. There’s an indoor pool and spa in the town, handy for rainy days and post-hiking chillax.

    Hi Michael,

Going back to your Swiss trip – Grindelwald. I stayed there in the Grindelwald Youth Hostel many, many years ago in a dorm room. I took my son there in 2010. We stayed in the ‘new’ section in a double room with shower & wc. Again, the most fantastic part of the visit was looking out the window when we woke each morning and seeing the magnificent snow-capped mountains. This Youth Hostel is an uphill walk from the station, but well worth it for the view.
