Dining Lake Como

Lenno is a pretty little village about halfway along the western shore of Lake Como. It’s where you get a boat to visit the gardens at Villa Balbianello, and home to a couple of standout mid-price restaurants, both of which we sampled.  On the waterfront, Albergo Plinio does wonderful home-made pasta dishes and grilled lakefish, with dreamy seating overlooking the lake. Basic rooms here start from €85, and location is fantastic. Back from the waterfront in the piazza at Lenno, Trattoria Santo Stefano is a gift from the food gods, with a small but sensational menu that hits the culinary high notes.
