Should I go on a cruise with my grand daughter?
I WILL BE LOOKING AFTER MY 6-YEAR-OLD GRANDDAUGHTER FROM 7-10 JULY AND I THOUGHT TO TAKE HER SOMEWHERE IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC (OTHER THAN VANUATU OR FIJI) FOR 7-10 DAYS. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A REASONABLY PRICED VENUE OR CRUISE THAT WOULD SUIT BOTH A FAIRLY ACTIVE 71-YEAR-OLD AS WELL AS HER?
The only other South Pacific destination that comes close to fitting the bill is Hawaii. The Hawaiian Islands have everything you could wish for to keep you and your granddaughter entertained and invigorated for a week, although it’s more expensive than either Fiji or Vanuatu, and the flight is considerably longer. If you’re willing to head north rather than east Bali could be a good choice, and perhaps one of the hotels around Sanur, which is quieter than the Legian/Seminyak strip, and the beach offers safe swimming for children. A cruise is certainly an option although if you plan to keep it within that 7-10 day time frame and depart from Sydney, your itinerary will almost certainly include Vanuatu and possibly Fiji as well. Check Cruiseco for some options.
There are also some tantalising options within our own shores at this time of the year. The Port Douglas/Cape Tribulation region comes into its own in mid-year and there’s plenty to like about the Sunshine Coast and north coast NSW.
