DAY 1: ARRIVE NEW DELHI 26 OCTOBER

Customs and immigration will take 30-45 minutes. Tour representative will meet you at the airport, assist with baggage and transfer you to your hotel near the airport (10 minutes). Depending on your arrival time, meet the group over a welcome drink in the bar

DAY 2: TOUR OF NEW DELHI 27 OCTOBER

Group meets for breakfast

Tour of New Delhi We’ll take a 4-hour guided tour of some of the capital’s outstanding heritage monuments, which involves a mix of walking and driving.  Explore the serene Lodhi Gardens and the Qutb Minar complex.

After relaxing at our hotel from mid-afternoon we’ll meet over a welcome dinner at our hotel.

DAY 3: FLIGHT TO UDAIPUR 28 OCTOBER

Fly to Udaipur. Transfer to hotel Bujera Fort, relax with afternoon tea at hotel.

This evening we’ll watch the sunset over cocktails from the roof terrace with a musical performance by Sufi singers that continues over dinner.

DAY 4: UDAIPUR 29 OCTOBER

This morning we’ll relax at Bujera Fort, with a chance to explore the village and the fields that surround it, have a swim and possibly a spa. In the late afternoon we’ll head into Udaipur and take a leisurely afternoon cruise on Lake Pichola followed by a cultural show at Bagore Ki Haveli and dinner at Upre  restaurant overlooking the magnificent City Palace, Lake Palace, the temples, the bathing ghats and embankments.

DAY 5: UDAIPUR 30 OCTOBER

After breakfast we’ll drive to Udaipur and take a guided tour of one of the most impressive palaces in all of India, followed by lunch at the cafe in the forecourt of the palace (not included).

After lunch we’ll take a short stroll from the palace to visit Jagdish Temple, a wonderful photo opportunity, with the chance for shopping along the way.

DAY 6: DRIVE TO NARLAI 31 OCTOBER

Drive to Narlai (3.5hrs) with stop at Nagda Temple, set among fields on the edge of a lake and dating from the 10th century AD. Some of the sculptures on the walls of the temple were inspired by the Kama Sutra. Nearby Eklingji Temple is a particularly lovely marble complex begun in the 8th century and a major pilgrimage site.

We’ll lunch in the courtyard at Rawla Narlai (not included), relax in the afternoon and in the evening, after a prayer ceremony that takes place at sunset at the little Shiva temple at our hotel, we’ll board bullock carts for a short journey to a stepwell where we’ll dine by the lights of hundreds of flickering oil lamps, serenaded by a veena player singing sacred songs.

Rawla Narlai

DAY 7: NARLAI AND SURROUNDS 1 NOVEMBER

If you’re up for it, a vigorous morning walk to the top of Elephant Rock, followed by a relaxing breakfast in the courtyard.

Drive to  Mountbatten Lodge, a small, luxury retreat carved from forest in the Aravalli hills, where we’ll have lunch on the terrace in the shade of a 300-year-old fig tree. Followed by a short drive to Ranakpur Temple, a 15th century Jain temple sculpted in white marble and one of the masterworks of Indian devotional architecture.

DAY 8: NARLAI 2 NOVEMBER

A leisurely day to enjoy Narlai, one of the loveliest villages in Rajasthan, with plenty of time to relax and enjoy our hotel. Another chance for an early morning hike to the top of Elephant Rock or a leisurely stroll through the village to the stepwell. We’ll enjoy a guided village walk, leopard spotting and there are optional extra activities including a bird watching safari to nearby wetlands or a train ride on the local narrow-gauge railway.

DAY 9: DRIVE NARLAI TO JODHPUR 3 NOVEMBER

Drive to Rohet Gahr, a heritage hotel, for lunch, and a visit to the beautiful marwari horses with a stop at Om Banna, probably the only temple where the object of veneration is a motorcycle.

DAY 10: EXPLORE JODHPUR 4 NOVEMBER

Touring the incredible Mehrangarh Fort and its palace and nearby Jaswant Thada and the surrounding cenotaphs of the royal family. Lunch at the Stepwell Café, latest addition to the city’s smart food scene, followed by a shopping expedition in the boutiques in the square.

Afternoon spent relaxing back at the hotel followed by dinner on the rooftop at the Pal Haveli which has incredible views of the fort.

DAY 11: EXPLORE JODHPUR 5 NOVEMBER

Jeep tour of the Bishnoi villages followed by a visit to the pottery maker and the durrie weaver.

In the afternoon we’ll also visit the blue city, the sector of the city inhabited by upper-caste Hindus who paint their houses indigo blue, incredible for photography. Jodhpur is famous for its street food. We’ll get to sample paliwal kachori, masala chai and sweets that have been made by the same family for centuries.

DAY 12: DRIVE TO JAIPUR 6 NOVEMBER

Stay at Samode Haveli

Samode Haveli is a traditional Indian mansion with a fine garden as its centrepiece, with apartments arranged around a series of intimate courtyards. Built 175 years ago as a residence of the rulers of Samode, it is still occupied by their descendants, who have converted their home into a luxury hotel.

DAY 13: EXPLORE JAIPUR 7 NOVEMBER

Wander through the tangled laneways of the old city, visit the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), explore the bracelet bazaar and visit one of the city’s famous jewellery stores. We’ll lunch at the cafe in the City Palace (not included), relax back at Samode Haveli in the afternoon and dine outdoors at the lovely Bar Palladio

DAY 14: EXPLORE AMER, CONTINUE T0 BISHANGARH 8 NOVEMBER

Amer is the original settlement that was founded in a valley just outside Jaipur, and which later gave rise to the city itself. Its distinguishing feature is the vast and impressive Amer Fort which sits on the hilltop above the village, where we’ll spend some time exploring.

The village itself is a small delight, with a stepwell, some very fine temples and the Anokhi Block Printing Museum

Drive  to Alila Fort Bishanghar (About 45 minutes)in mid-afternoon.

Perched on top of a granite hillock in the midst of a vast expanse of the Aravalli Range, surrounded by hills dotted with havelis, villages and temples, Alila Fort Bishangarh is 230-year-old warrior fort that has been rebirthed as one of India’s most luxurious and unique heritage properties.

DAY 15: EXPLORE  BISHANGARH 9 NOVEMBER

DAY 16: EXPLORE  BISHANGARH 10 NOVEMBER

Optional activities include an early morning trek through the countryside followed by tea in the village, a cooking class, relax by the pool or a spa treatment (included).

DAY 17: DRIVE TO AGRA 11 NOVEMBER

We’ll break the five-hour drive with a detour to Chand Baori, a vast stepwell in the village of Abhaneri. In the afternoon we’ll have a sunset viewing of the Taj Mahal from the far side of the Yamuna River.

DAY 18: AGRA AND ON TO DELHI 12 NOVEMBER

After an early morning visit to the Taj Mahal we’ll visit a gallery with fine examples of pietra dura, marble inlaid with semiprecious stones, and continue to Delhi, about a four-hour trip.

Our hotel is located in Friends Colony, a privileged enclave, surrounded by the homes of some of Delhi’s wealthy elite.

DAY 19: EXPLORE  DELHI 13 NOVEMBER

Tour of Old Delhi with a walk through the wedding and spice bazaars and a , visit to the Jama Masjid  the huge mosque built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in year 1656 AD. Then  short drive to the  Sikh Gurudwara Bangla Sahib where we visit the kitchens that dispense free food to thousands daily.

Lunch at the Khan Market, a favourite for many of the city’s expats, with a final opportunity for shopping.

Our farewell dinner will be at Indian Accent in the Lodhi Hotel. The restaurant is the creation of Chef Manish Mehrotra, one of India’s culinary superstars, who brings excitement and ingenuity to traditional Indian dishes, now with restaurants in London and New York. We’ll dine on the tasting menu, with a choice of either vegetarian or non-vegetarian meals.

DAY 20: A FINAL FAREWELL 14 NOVEMBER

Guests will be transported to the airport for their departure flights. There is also an option to stay longer and experience more facets of India. Discuss with us if you’d like some suggestions.
